Today we are doing the Pre-Lab activities, so when you dissect your sheep eye you will:
1. be more confident with the material (and less grossed out!)
2. know how to proceed independently with instructions you've created
3. be able to describe how each eye structure and function
Follow the instructions below in pink. Before you get started, check your grades on BCPSone. I have added your last Quest, but not Late Work. Your next Quest is 2/15
Your job today is to learn about dissecting an eye, and create your own instructions for dissection. To do so you will have to consider safety and procedure.
1. Dissection Safety
Look through the materials list, what safety measures should we be following to safely dissect this sheep eye. Fill your answers in your handout
(This dissection will be similar to the fish dissection because we will be using a preserved sample). |
Materials Needed
- Gloves and Goggles - One preserved sheep’s eye for every two participants - One single-edged razor blade or scalpel for every two participants - Scissors - Plastic garbage bag - A dissecting tray - A sheet of newspaper - Soap, water, and paper towels for cleaning up |
Circle the Eye Parts that are new to you and use the internet to figure out what they do. Label the function of these parts. Star the eye part that humans don't have.
2. To get to the video we will need for a portion of today, please go to the student drive. Then open the 'Munn' folder and click on '25 - Cow's Eye Dissection'
To run Windows Media Player you may need to install it. Click 'recommended' settings and click finish.
